Getting better all the time

The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department met formally for the first time July 24, 1950.  The new department had a single piece of equipment, a 1949 International pumper.

The department now maintains a tanker, two pumpers, a grass fire truck and a rescue vehicle.

Funds for the department are derived from a one-mill real estate tax levy that provides about $78,000 per year.

Current members, serving under Chief Terry L. Wilson and Assistant Chief Wade Main, are Leo T. Brahler, Craig R. Cobb, Charles E. Egli, Larry D. Haupt, Gary Karlen, Bruce E. Miller, Earl J.
